When our clients come sit in our chairs and they pull out their phones to scroll through tons of hair inspiriations that they found on Pinterest and Instagram, the majority of these pictures are showing long, full-bodied locks; Needless to say, there’s a very apparent trend happening. So what’s the secret to this envy-inducing length and body that has been swarming through social media? Well you asked, so we answered! This month we are answering our clients questions about a new service we are offering here at Elleven: HANDTIED EXTENSIONS! The popularity around this type of extension is overwhelming! (I mean…who wouldn't want beautifully long, luscious locks in a matter of hours?!? Lol.) And since we’ve been doing different types of extensions at Elleven for a while, we jumped at the chance to send two of our lovely ladies, Lindsay and Jenny, to get certified in this popular technique!

Again, a lot of our clients have seen this extension technique taking over social media, but some might not have any clue what an extension is! So what are handtied extensions? Handtied extensions are a long weft of hair that are hand sewn to create a thin, flat weft. A row of beads is created along the client’s head, and then the weft of hair is sewn into the beads. They are super light-weight and lay flat to the head in order to blend seamlessly with your natural hair and texture. Now, let’s take a little sneak peak into the world of handtied extensions and answer the top 5 questions you all have been asking!

Treat your extensions like your natural hair! Shampoo twice a week, and any professional styling products that you would normally use on your hair can be used on your extensions as well. Brush your extensions every night by sectioning out both the natural and extension hair, and then put it in a loose pony tail or braid. We love Mane Ivy scrunchies for stylish ponytails, plus they don’t cause any kinks or tangles, and then wear to bed! Click HERE to check the different styles of Mane Ivy Scrunchies. A new installation is recommended every 8-10 weeks, but with proper care, you can usually use the same weft of hair for up to a year!

Purple shampoo is not recommended because it could change the tone of the extensions due to the porosity of the hair. If you normally use purple shampoo on your hair, we recommend sectioning out your natural hair to wash with purple shampoo and then letting the shampoo rinse on to the extensions. You could also put conditioner on the extensions before using the purple shampoo to act as a barrier. But the extensions can be glazed, so if you like getting a glaze or toner, we provide that service in the salon! Also, any sunscreens can cause the hair to turn pinky/peach, so we recommend putting the extensions in a ponytail or covering them when spraying sunscreen.

Anything that is foreign in your hair could cause damage without correct maintenance; however, with quality training we will help you maintain the integrity of your hair. Again we recommend using professional grade products and brushes. Click HERE to see the brush we love using for the Bombshell Handtied Extensions.

Absolutely you can wear your hair up! You can also wear it in braids! The placement of the hair on the head and the flat/thin nature of the weft allows for a seamless look when your hair is pulled up. Also, each extension service is color customized to blend with your natural hair color.

We know that every client’s hair is different and each person has different needs, so we strive to customize all extension and color services to fit those needs. It is also so important to us that you receive all the information and instructions of the extension service. Because of this a Complimentary Consultation is required first for all extension services where length, color, maintenance, and cost are discussed in detail.

Whether you are just looking for that added thickness or wanting a major lengthening transformation, whatever your desire, we can make it happen with our Bombshell Handtied Extensions! Give us a call at (256)489-4247 to set up your Consultation!

One of the great things about the summer is that after you've spent all day in the sun, your skin tends to come alive with a fresh sun-kissed look that requires very little makeup! Well, how would you like to achieve that sun-kissed glow EVERYDAY, with or without the sun’s help? This month’s lesson comes from our very own Amy K who uses the all-natural mineral makeup line Jane Iredale to show you how to create that summer glow and take it from day to night. Click the video below to see Amy's step by step tutorial.

The very first and most important step is to prep your face with Jane Iredale’s Hyaluronic Serum to keep the skin hydrated after washing. Next use the Smooth Affair Primer and Brightener to prime your face before blending on Jane’s Glow Time BB Cream Foundation. This foundation has a dewy feel that helps create that summer glow look. You can also use the Pressed Powder Foundation on top of the BB cream if you are wanting a little extra coverage.

Now that your face is prepped, let’s get into some Bronzer! Many are scared of the word “Bronzer” but using it in your daily routine can bring life to your complexion. Amy uses the Dome Brush to show us how she applies Jane Iredale’s So-Bronze 2 bronzing powder right under the cheek bones for contour and around the temples to create a warmth to the face.

And now that your face has that sun-kissed summer look, let’s move on to the eyes! All you need for an easy daytime look is the Smooth Affair For Eyes in the color Gold and some clean fingers! Amy blends this cream-based shadow over the entire eyelid using just her finger which makes this application quick and easy! She also focuses on areas that the sun would naturally hit by dabbing a small amount under the eyes just above the cheekbone, and on the bridge of the nose. Lastly Amy applies Jane’s Liquid Liner on the top lids and mascara to finish off her look!

When it’s time to take this look from day to night, Amy uses the Pressed Powder Eye Shadow in the color Supernova to give her eyes a smokier look. She uses the Crease Brush to add the shadow in the outer corners of the eyelid creases. Then just blend the shadow well across the crease of the eyelids to enhance that smokey look and add a little glamour and drama to the eyes! To finish off the full look you can add the lip color of your choice. Here Amy uses Jane Iredale’s Lip Fixation Lip Stain in the color Fascination and tops it off with the PureGloss Lip Gloss in Kir Royale to add a little more shimmer!

And there you have it! Now you're ready to show off your sun kissed summer glow! Need to know where to get these amazing products? Here at Elleven Salon we carry the full line of Jane Iredale products to help you achieve this look. Don’t want to try it by yourself? Who knew getting that glow would be so easy!

With summer’s fun hot days come more humidity in the air so your hair may be frizzier than usual these days.  While it may be okay to have a little frizz here and there it sure is nice to know that there is a solution and a way to manage this frizz. Here at Elleven we’re sharing more of our hair secrets with you so you can look your best all summer long even with the heat and humidity in the air!

One way to stay cool without the frizz is to air dry your hair. Start by brushing out your hair before you jump in the shower to shampoo. That’s right the secret is to brush your hair before the shower and do not brush after you shampoo and condition. Next section out the bottom part of your hair from the top of the ear, then clip up the rest. Mix together in your hands a generous amount of Redken’s Rebel Tame and Instant Deflate and start at the ends of the hair, then working the product up the hair. Next you should section out the middle part of the hair from the corner of the eyes, then clip up the rest, and apply more Rebel Tame and Instant Deflate while light squeezing hair from the ends up. Take down the top section and apply more Rebel Tame and Instant Deflate, working it throughout the hair. Finally lightly squeeze and tousle the hair throughout the air drying process.

Wait there’s more, you can still get those fun bouncy curls even the next day without another wash, here’s how: Start by prepping hair with No Blow Dry (Airy Cream) and let it dry naturally. Then clip the hair off at the crown - leave the nape area alone. Next prep your hair with Redken’s Frizz Dismiss Anti Static Oil Mist- Don’t forget to shake it well, curl the hair, drop the rest of the hair and prep it with Redken’s Frizz Dismiss Aniti Static Oil Mist- again don’t forget to shake it well, then continue to curl the rest of your hair. Next spray the Pureology Refresh and Go Dry Shampoo and shake hair apart. Finally spray light hold hairspray on a makeup brush and brush away any extra frizz. Voila (Wah-Lah)finished.
